Nestabilties Storage

I just wanted to share with everyone how I have begun to store my Nestabilties from Spellbinders. I took a cork board that I had lying around and covered it with some patterned paper (this is from DCWV Green Stack). I then got a roll of magnet sheet from Michaels (the roll measures 1'x2' and was $10). I cut the magnet down to slightly larger than the largest die. I decided to use push pins to attach the magnet to the cork board. The magnet comes with adhesive on the back, but I wanted to keep the ability to re-arrange them as my collection grows. So far this system is working out really well for me.

This is my card for Day 137 over at 365 Cards. The challenge was to use something to bind the card together. I decided to use fabric. I used some fabric scraps that I had lying around and stitched them onto the two diffrent colors of cardstock (Stampin Up's Green Galore & Yo Yo Yellow). I made the Green Galore be just a tad shorter so that you could see the Yo Yo Yellow from the front of the card. I then stamped this quotation (Inkadinkadoo) onto some white cardstock and then using Copics airbrushed the rainbow onto the white. I just love how this card turned out!

365 Cards - Day 138

Here is my card for 365 Cards Challenge Day 138 which was to include a quotation. Since I had just gotten my new stamp set in from Papertrey Ink, I couldn't resist taking advantage of it. The chair, rug, table, books, cat and the quote is from On My Couch and On My Couch Additions which was just released and it is so cute. I used PTI's Enchanted Evening, Ripe Avocado, and Dark Chocolate inks along with Memento Tuxedo Black to stamp all the images to create the scene. I cut that out with Nestabilities Oval and then layered it with a Scalloped Oval die using PTI's Ripe Avocado. The quote was stamped on PTI's Spring Moss cardstock using Ripe Avocado. The whole thing is tied off with Enchanted Evening Swiss Dot Ribbon. I really love how this card turned out!

365 Cards - Day 139

Here is my card for 365 Card Challenge Day 139 which was paper piercing. For this card, I used Papertry Ink's Plum Pudding, Smokey Shadow, and Lavender Moon cardstock. I cut out the needle and scissors from Disney's Happily Ever After. Note that the needle was part of a spool of thread cut and I just off the spool of thread so that I was left with only the needle. I then used some embroidery floss to stitch on the zig zag and threaded the floss through the eye of the needle.

365 Cards - Day 140

Here is my card for Day 140 over at 365 Card Challenges. The challenge was to use paint (which is not my strong point). I used the Making Memories Tag Maker and painted the tag in a blue paint. I then stamped Good Luck from Papertrey Ink's Mega Mixed Messages in PTI's Spring Rain. I used a silver Painter's Pen to dot the edges in silver. The papers are PTI's Spring Rain and the new Enchanted Evening (loving this color, probably the most beautiful navy blue ever!) and I used the Cuttlebug Divine Swirls embossing folder, and finished the card off with some PTI Enchanted Eventing Satin ribbon. If I had to do this card again, I would probably make a few changes, it did not turn out exactly the way I wanted.

Still Catching Up!

I am still working on catching up to the ladies over at 365 Card Challenges. Here are the cards for Days 9-12. I have some more coming so keep a look out for them!

This card was made completely out of scraps and done in about 5 minutes.

This is similar to what I plan to do for my Christmas cards this year. The image here is Dustin Pike Cocoa Soak and I colored it with Copics. The picture is my youngest son Mason, isn't he cute? I also used the Basic Grey magnetic snaps on the tag and the back of the picture so that the recipient could take the picture off of the card and put it on their refrigerator. The tag and the pocket were cut with the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More cartridge.

This was also made from scraps (K&Company) and I used some copper craft wire to thread the buttons so that it looks like the wire is holding the button on (which is something my husband would probably do!)

Really simple card. The mailbox is cut from the Wild Card cartridge.

365 Cards Challenge

I made this background paper using the Shaving Cream technique, which is so much fun!

I made this background paper using the Heated Pearl Ex technique. Messy, but really cool looking!

The cake was cut from the Pooh & Friends cartridge.

I used the Nestabilities Ribbon Tag to make this tag.

Here is a really cute birthday card that I made using Papertrey Ink products! The card base I embossed with my Nestabilites. Nichole explains on her blog how to do it. I then stamped a cupcake from the Cupcake Collection and added the sentiment. This was really quick and I think I am going to make some more of these for my stash.

Here is another card using Fabric! I had a plain white piece of fabric and I used the Rubber Band Technique on it with Papertrey Ink ink pads (colors New Leaf and Raspberry Fizz). When I was done with that I adhered some of the fabric to white cardstock and used my Nestabilites Pansy dies to cut one layer of the flower with the fabric and another layer with the Raspberry Fizz paper and topped it off with a New Leaf button. I just love how Papertrey Ink's items coordinate with each other. Hopefully they will add embossing powders soon! I also took a piece of the fabric and made it into a ribbon for the card. I purposely frayed the edges because I thought that it was a really cool effect!

I'm Playing Catch Up!

Ok so I just recently discoverd 365 Cards. These ladies have set out to do a daily challenge for a full year. They are so creative and have come up with some really cool challenges, so I have made a decision. I am going to play catch up! They started these challenges back in March and I am going to go "back in time" and catch up! Wish me luck! So here are my cards for Challenges 1-8.

Used my Nestabilites to cut all these circles, really turned out cute. I think this card would make for a cool masculine card too using the right papers, and twine instead of ribbon.

So easy! Used my brayer to ink up my Cuttlebug embossing folder before embossing for this neat background paper

Used my Copics to color this flower ( have I mentioned that I am addicted yet?)

Not thrilled with the way this one came out, but it's alright. I used the Rubber Band Technique to make the background paper. So easy and fun!

So simple. I could make a ton of these if I had to!

Really simple, and very glittery between the glitter cardstock and the gemstones!

Again I used my Nestabilites to cut the circles.

I used the Making Memories Tag Maker for the tag, so easy!

Father's Day Train Card

Here is one more Father's Day card, forgot to include this one in my earlier post. I made this for my father-in-law who is a train nut! I used the faux metal technique for the train image. The patterned paper is K&Company, and the border punch is Martha Stewart.

Lip Smacker Box

Hi Everyone! Since I have not created too many new things lately, I thought I would share with you something that I made about a month ago. My sister-in-law LOVES Lip Smakers! I don't think I have ever seen her without one, so I thought that I would make her a box for her lip smackers. All I did was take the instructions for the nugget boxes found HERE at Splitcoaststampers.com and modified the measurements to get the size box that I needed to house a package of lip smackers. This would make a really cute gift for a teenage girl! It also goes to show you that you can alter these boxes to the size that you need for just about any gift.

Sorry that I have not updated in awhile. Recently my husband sustained a severe back injury, and between taking care of him and our two small children, working, and everything else that goes on around here, I haven't had much time for crafting. My husband is starting physical therapy this week and I am hoping that that will help him recover. I meant to post these cards before Father's Day, but obviously didn't make it in time, so here they are, so maybe they can give you some ideas for next year.

This first card, I made for my youngest son to give to my husband. I found this cute stamp at Michael's and thought that it was just perfect. I colored it in with Prismacolor pencils and used Goo Gone instead of Gamsol to blend it. Love this technique, wish I had a full set of Prismacolors! One day, right? I made the card as a shaker card, and used

coarse glitter to fill it. The frame was made with Coluzzle, and I free hand wrote the sentiment with Ice Stickles. The inside said "No matter how big I get I will always look up to my Daddy". Just love it!

This next card, I made for my oldest son to give, it is a hinged card. The two of them both love anything and everything to do with space, so I used this rocket SVG cut and cut it out with SCAL. Turned out so cute. The patterned paper is DCWV All About Boys stack. I really love how it turned out, and both of them loved it too! In fact, my husband had to wrangle it from my son in order to read it!

Golfing Father!

Father's Day is coming! I made this card for my Dad and I really like how it turned out. The stamp is called golffella from Stamping Bella. I used my Copic markers (my lastest addiction!) to color the image. The patterned paper is from K& Company's Sea Glass collection. As for the wording, I got that off of another card and printed it out using Microsoft Publisher from my computer.

OK, so I have been thinking for awhile about making a kaleidoscope using patterned paper. My mom had made a baby quilt for my son using this technique, so I used that quilt for the inspiration. When the challenge was announced, I knew that this is what I had to do. The paper used here is from the 2008 DCWV Christmas Stack. HERE is the link to the challenge thread.

Here is the card that I made for the Card Sketch challenge at From C to Shining C, you can find this challenge HERE. I used Papertrey Ink paper in Lemon Tart and Ripe Avocado. I also used PTI ribbon in Lemon Tart and Spring Moss. The plaid ribbon is from Michael's $1 bin. The marigold cut is a SVG file from SVGCuts.com. I cut this on my Cricut Expression using SCAL. I really liked how this turned out, and I think I will be using this Sketch as an outline in the future!

Fabric...what can I do with Fabric?

Well my mom is a quilter, and it drives her crazy that I can't seem to do anything with sewing. It's bad, and I mean bad. So anyways, a few years ago, she gave me a bag of her scraps to experiment with using fabric on cards. I hadn't done much with it, but in honor of her birthday I decided to give it a try. Since Cricut supposedly can cut fabric I thought I would give it a try. I had difficulty with plain one piece of fabric, and there was no way that I would be able to cut with the seams that are in this fabric scrap, so I had to come up with another idea. With the double stick fusible webbing on the back of the fabric, I used my Cricut markers and low pressure setting on the Cricut, and drew this butterfly on the back of the fabric, and then cut it out by hand. Not the best method, but at least I knew that it wouldn't ruin my blade. I also used the Versamark Dazzle ink pad and stamped butterflies all over the yellow (Lemon Tart from Papertrey Ink). I also used a Cuttlebug embossing border on the side, and decided that I liked the reverse side the best. I used my ribbon hole punch and tied some delicate pink ribbon into a bow to mirror the butterfly. Needless to say, my mom was impressed that I finally did something with fabric!

FCTSC Card Sketch Challenge #5

Here is the card that I made for this challenge (From C to Shining C). It is kind of hard to see in the picture, but I embossed the entire patterned paper in a holographic embossing powder that I got at Hobby Lobby. It really makes the card shimmer. I cut the star using my Coluzzle (still upset that it was discontinued) and the stamp on the star says Imagine and have a butterfly image. Very cute, now I just have to figure out who to give it to!!

FCTSC Color Challenge #5

Here is the card that I made for From C to Shining C's color challenge. The colors were brown, light blue, pink, and green. I was having difficulty with this one for some reason, still not sure why, so I decided to have some fun with my Cuttlebug! I used 4 different embossing folders on the card, I think the brown is Stylized Flowers, green is Swiss Dots, the pink is Bloom Dots?, and the blue is Distressed Stripes. The stamp on the pink is a little postmark that says Thinking of You, not sure where I got that one from. I actually really like how this turned out, I typically only use one embossing folder per card, so this was a change for me. It definately added a lot of interest!

Pop Up Treat Holder

This was so cute and fun to do. I saw a video tutorial on You Tube, check it out here, and I decided to recreate it. My son Jared just finished his first year of pre-school, so I decided to make these for his classmates. He loved them, kept calling it his "Dinosaur Candy". I used Fern cardstock from the Paper Company to go with the Green Croc Skin paper also from the Paper Company. I got both at Joann's. The dinosaur was cut from the Paper Doll Dress Up Cricut cartridge. I made 20 of these, and it only took about 2 hours. It was worth it to see the smile on my little boy's face!!!

Tri Fold Shutter Card

Here is my card for the Try a New Technique challenge at Splitcoast Stampers. I had a great time making this card. I decided on a Christmas card because I want to get a head start so I am not in a rush to get them done later. I used DCWV 2008 Christmas Stack for the patterned paper, and the sled, large snowflake, and the Winter phrase were cut on Cricut's Stretch Your Imagination cartridge (a great cartridge for the cardmaker!)

Beee-utiful Polka Doodles Challenge

Here is my card for the first Polka Doodles challenge. As you may have guessed by now, I like the clean and simple approach. When I first started cardmaking, I loaded up my cards with embellishments so much that it got to the point where it was overwhelming. I had to teach myself to keep things to a minimum. This sketch had a lot going on, so I didn't want to add anything extra to it. The bee was cut with the Pooh and Friends Cricut cartridge, the yellow side panel was embossed with the Cuttlebug Forest Branches embossing folder. The stamp set is an old Hero Arts set and I do not have the name of it. I purposely stamped the phrase crooked because I was trying to re-create the flight of a bee. I think this would make a great baby card, especially because it is gender specific. Now I just need one of my friends to get pregnant (hint hint Christina hint hint)!!

Graduation Card

My husband and I are going to a graduation party for the daughter of a co-worker. Neither of us knows her very well, so I had trouble deciding what I wanted to do. I decided to try to make a waterfall card, and it was not as complicated as I thought it would be. Robyn The Pink Stamper has a great video tutorial on how to do this card. The mortar board cut was from SVGCuts.com, and I used Sure Cuts A Lot to cut it on my Cricut. The patterned paper is actually from the 2008 DCWV Christmas Stack, and the pink is Raspberry Fizz from Papertrey Ink. Papertrey Ink has this Perfect Match system and the ribbon is Raspberry Fizz stitched ribbon, and it goes great with the patterned paper. It doesn't show in the picture, but the stripes in the pattern have a stitched edge to them. Very cute.

Color Challenge & Limited Supply Challenge

I actually combined two challenges from Splitcoast Stampers into one card. The Color Challenge was to use Orange, Red and Blue. The Limited Supply Challenge was Circles, with the restriction of only using 1 stamp set. I did not use any stamps on this card, but I did use two Cricut cartridges. The Oh Happy Day is from the Wild Card cartridge (if you are a cardmaker and don't have this cartridge, it is a MUST have!) and the lollipops are from the Mickey and Friends cartridge, it is the icon border on one of the Goofy buttons. To keep it simple, I just used one of my fine tip Bic markers to make the dots along the edge. Not a fan of the color combo, but sometimes that is what a challenge is all about, trying something you wouldn't ordinarily try!

Clean and Simple #15 Challenge

This is my creation for the Clean and Simple #15 Challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers. The challenge was to use Black, White, and 1 Bold Bright Color. It just goes to show that a card does not have to complicated, this one took less than 10 minutes to put together.

Teacher Appreciation Gifts

I made the notebook and candy tin that you see in the pictures above for my son's teachers. They really turned out so cute! The candy tin was pirchased from Papertrey Ink. I love their stuff! The candy inside are Hershey Nuggets, wrapped in patterned paper 1"x 3" each. The flowers were some that I had in my stash, not sure where they came from. The notebook is simply a composition notebook covered in patterned paper. I covered both sides of the cover using paper from DCWV Spring Stack. Then I took a 3" strip of coordinating cardstock and attached to the binding. The "F" was cut using the Cricut Doodletype cartridge. Lovin' my Bug!!! I can't take credit for these projects, I have seen them in numerous places online. They are quick and easy projects, and I think I am going to make up some extras to have on hand for when I need a quick gift!

Starting my Blog!

Hi all!

I have been scrapbooking and cardmaking for more than 10 years now, and I love it. I admit that I haven't done much in the last few years as I have been incredibly busy raising my two sons, Jared and Mason, as well as working in the family business. Recently, my husband and I converted a room in our house to be "Mommy and Daddy's Time Out Room". With this, I finally have a place to craft! Much easier than the kitchen table with the kids running around. I am going to work on getting some pictures and other info on here as soon as I can, so check back soon.
